Thank You!
The generous donations we received from schools enabled us to put even more books into the hands of children. Because of your dedication to the activity, we will reach our goal of donating one million books to the following non-profit organizations:
Toys for Tots, National Center for Family Literacy, and Kid in Distressed Situations, Inc.

One for Books will continue this spring. Read to find out how your school can help us reach our goal of donating one million books.
Donations of just $1 buys more books for your school.
No child should walk away from your Book Fair empty-handed and no teacher's Classroom Wish List request should be left unfilled.
One for Books enables you to offer parents a quick and easy way to benefit students, teachers, and school
libraries. As parents donate dollars and you collect contributions from local businesses the dollars will add
up and you decide how to spend the money:
- You can put books into the hands of children who cannot afford them.
- You can use the extra earnings to build school and classroom libraries.
Scholastic Book Fairs pledges a special match; we will donate up to a million books to three literacy programs!
- Kids in Distressed Situations
- National Center for Family Literacy
- Toys for Tots
Three Steps to Gain Parent Support
- Send a Letter Home (RTF 4KB) two weeks before the Fair that explains the program and includes a Book Slip. You could also use the Holiday Letter Home (RTF 5KB)
- Create a "chain" of Book Slips as they are purchased leading from the front door through the school to
create excitement and interest.
- Welcome new donations at the Fair by displaying a tent card with a stack of blank Book Slips where
shoppers are sure to see them.
Six Steps to a Successful Partnership with Businesses
- Identify small businesses near your school that you feel would be likely to support your
fundraising efforts.
- Fill out the information on the back of the Countertop Tent Card (PDF Form 127KB).
- Reproduce the countertop tent card for each business and supply them with plenty of
Book Slips (PDF 95K). Be sure to write in the name of your school.
- Deliver countertop tent card and 50 Book Slips to each business two weeks prior to your Fair.
Remind them that signed Book Slips should be displayed to show community support.
- Pick up the cash and signed Book Slips collected by each business just prior to your Fair.
- Thank participating businesses. You might display business names at your Fair, acknowledge
them on the school's Web site, send a press release to area papers, send a thank-you note (PDF Form 101K), or have
students hand-draw a thank-you poster the business can display.
Please note that Scholastic Book Fairs cannot direct donations specifically to one organization. Your school’s donation will go to one of three non-profit organizations: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., the National Center for Family Literacy, and Toys for Tots.
