'Feel
the West' Bulletin Board
Two
weeks before your Book Fair, create a Western promotion.
Cost:
About $25
Time: 2.5 hours (less with a helper)
 Here's
what you need:
- Half a yard
of red felt
- 20' of rope
- Blue, brown,
and yellow construction paper
- Brown twine
- Brown wrapping
paper (or shopping bags)
- Cotton balls,
hay or rafia
- Green pot-scrubber
pads (4-pack box)
- Glue stick,
glue gun
- Popsicle
sticks (16)
Here's what
to do:
- Cover top
third of bulletin board with blue construction paper.
- Mold crumpled
paper bags and brown construction paper into mountains.
- Cover bottom
of board with yellow paper, stapling around edges and across base
of mountains.
- Hot-glue
red-painted Popsicle sticks in place for fence posts.
- Add cotton
clouds, pot-scrubber cacti (PDF),
a small plastic snake, and a couple of tumbleweeds of hay, grass,
or rafia.
- Place a red
banner (PDF) across the bottom announces the theme (write letters
in hot glue, add brown twine). An open book tells the what, when,
and where.
- The "book"
is blue poster paper with well-glued white announcement pages
(we used cardboard stock) attached so that both pages bow in the
middle. It is stapled on all sides and through the center. Overlay
it with a lasso and extend the tail to form a rope border around
the entire board.
- Enlarge Reading
RoundUp Sign Letters (PDF) and glue to top of your bulletin board.
