Pecos Pig: Family Event Activity
Little Pecos is a paper pig, made from a box and an oatmeal
container. Feed him with beanbags bean-filled circles
of colorful cloth held together with rubber bands tossed
with studied precision by Fair-goers.

Time: a half hour
Here's what
you need:
- Sturdy cardboard
box (16" x 12" shown)
- 1.5 to 2
yards brown paper, to wrap box
- Round oatmeal
box
- Pink construction
paper (ears)
- Pink spray
paint
- Pink pipe
cleaner (tail)
- Black marker,
to add features
- Fabric scraps
for bean bags
- Beans for
filler
- Rubber bands
to fasten bags
Here's what
you do:
- Sit box on
end, with the sealed bottom as the front.
- Leave the
back flaps unsealed for beanbag retrieval or retrieve via the
snout.
- Wrap brown
paper around box to create a smooth "body," secure with tape or
glue.
- Position
snout 3.5" to 4" from top of box, and trace around the tube.
- Cut out and
remove circle; insert snout.
- Spray paint
pink in well-ventilated area.
- Cut two triangles
of pink construction paper, folding bottom of ear under 1/2" for
gluing.
- Insert pipe-cleaner
tail.
- Use marker
to highlight ears and add features eyes, eyebrows, and
legs.
- Cut 7" circles
from scrap fabric, fill with beans, gather up, and close with
rubber bands.
Hint: Seal beans
in a small sandwich bag, and then cover with fabric - just in case!
