Book Fair Entrance
Here's how to create it. All it takes is a little crepe, a little craft paper, and a little patriotic inspiration.
Sidewalk
- Make a sidewalk up to the door with 12 yards of gray felt.
- Add cracks to the sidewalk with strips of black paper.
Doors
- Wrap the doors in red craft paper.
- Cut bright yellow, red, and light blue stars from craft foam sheets or felt and add to door.
- Add a button sign (PDF) and a Read, White, and Blue logo sign (PDF) mounted on cardboard or foam core to the door with wire.
- Add red, white, and blue swags.
Columns
- Build two 8-foot columns by attaching two concrete form tubes apiece with hot glue and tape.
- Paint your cloumns with white primer. After the paint dries, add the base of the cloumns by adding white boxes to the top and bottom.
- Paint gray stripes to mimic the grooves in a classic column.
Eagle
- Create the eagle (PDF) for the top of the door with bright yellow felt glued to cardboard.
- The eagle is affixed over a white swag made from a solid white paper tablecloth.
- At the end of each swag, place a red, white, and blue rosette. Make the roseettes by bunching strips of tissue paper onto a paper plate, working from the center of the plate to make the rose shape.
Walls
- Tape blue craft paper to the walls.
- Draw the fireworks on the walls with bright pastels.
Props
- Borrow a little red wagon to showcase books.
- Download the children cut-outs and "Vote for Books" sign:
Enlarge it, (RTF) and affix to cardboard. The children cut-outs can hold picture books.
- Follow these directions for creating Lady Liberty.
