Contests Get Students Involved
The “Teacher’s Pet” Contest
Ask teachers to bring in a photo of their pet. Use this template (PDF 32K) to create your poster. Place it on a bulletin board in the Book Fair and invite students to guess who owns the pet. An entry box and entry form (PDF 103K) should be placed next to the bulletin board. Students who guess all the teacher’s pets correctly get a prize. |
Students Unleash Their Artistic Talents with a Poster Contest
Ask student groups to compete by creating themed posters promoting your Book Fair and Family Events. Make sure all posters include dates and times. Display the posters throughout the school, and particularly in high traffic areas such as the hall, cafeteria, and in the media center. |
How Many Goldfish are in the Fish Bowl?
A simple guessing game gets kids excited about the Fair. Take a fish bowl and fill it with goldfish crackers (don’t forget to count how many you put in it). Put the bowl and contest sign (PDF 50K) on display in the Media Center just prior to Book Fair Week. Have entry forms (PDF 84K) next to the jar and select the winner before the Fair ends. The winner gets to keep the bowl and a gift certificate to the Book Fair. (Cover the bowl with plastic so the fish are not removed.) |
Choose Your “Pick of the Litter”
Invite students to pick their favorite picture book, chapter book, non-fiction book, and pet-themed book while visiting the Book Fair. Decorate ballot boxes (PDF 87K) and put voting slips (PDF 170K) and pencils next to each box. At the Family Event, announce the winning books and put them on a special display. Parents will appreciate knowing the most popular books. |
